Understanding the Fiscal Crisis

by on March 8, 2010

Like Jay Rosen, I didn’t understand the housing crisis until I listened to This American Life’s award-winning episode, The Giant Pool of Money. If you’ve been confused on exactly what  happened and how, you’re not the only one. I’m normally riveted by This American Life, but this is an especially captivating hour.  Believe me.  Once you start,  it’ll be hard to pull yourself away. From This American Life:

What does the housing crisis have to do with the turmoil on Wall Street? Why did banks make half-million dollar loans to people without jobs or income? And why is everyone talking so much about the 1930s? It all comes back to the Giant Pool of Money.
