TED Lovers Meet TEDxNYED

by on March 8, 2010

If you’re a TED fangirl or boy, then you’ll probably appreciate TEDx events – “local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience” centered around a theme.  New York held one such event around ‘education.’ From TEDxNYED’s website:

TEDxNYED is an all-day event designed to bring leading educators, innovators, and idealists together to share their vision of education. This event will provide a platform for administrators, teachers, and those passionate about education to connect, learn from these extraordinary speakers, and spread their ideas on how new media and technology are shaping the future of education. There will be live speakers, two recorded TED Talks, and a number of networking sessions both during and after the event.

Reading the #TEDxNYED hashtag a few days ago I oscillated between panting and drooling.  I jest, but I must say that I found it extremely difficult not to retweet everything I read.  Through their speaker bios, I found a number of truly inspirational new thinkers to follow.  Among them, high school math teacher and Google curriculum fellow, Dan Mayer, who pointed me to Shawn Cornally’s blog, Think Thank Thunk.  These men are doing some truly innovative thinking around the art of teaching.
